Founded by Pallavi Luharuka on May 31, 2022, Royal Bengal Greentech Private Limited (RBG) is a sustainability driver to transform the MSME sector by making sustainable innovations affordable and accessible, through waste management and circularity initiatives.

The vision of the startup is “To be the sustainability driver for transforming the MSME sector and generate self-employment amongst talented and energetic youth.”

The mission is “To develop and provide innovative process solutions to make green technology more accessible and affordable for the MSME sector through waste management, energy conservation, circularity, and zero-discharge initiatives.”

How did it start?

The founder, during her tenure with multinational companies, realized that if she had to set up a manufacturing unit of her own as an MSME, she would not be able to afford the technologies of these MNCs. Keeping that in mind, Royal Bengal Greentech commenced to provide affordable, sustainable solutions to manufacturers.

Area of Operations

RBG has 3 different verticals so far–bioethanol (conversion to waste broken rice into ethanol) for which they collaborated with Jadavpur University, Kolkata; bioplastics which are the world’s first cost-effective bioplastic and bio-lubricants which is supplied to 7 states in India in both industrial and automotive sectors in India.

Key Innovations

Throughout a year since incorporation, some of the key innovations delivered by us include:

· The world’s first patented agri-waste derived, cost-effective, thermosetting, heat resistant, 100% Made-in-India, biodegradable plastic, using 100% natural ingredients priced at par with petro-plastic relative to three times costlier biodegradable alternatives.

· Patented next-gen bioethanol technology from waste-broken rice at up to 2x profitability – developed jointly in collaboration with the Department of Chemical Engineering, Jadavpur University Kolkata –pilot testing planned in Q4 2023.

· Next-gen cost-effective biodegradable grease–commercially available in 10+ cities in 5+ states across India for various automobiles as well as industrial machinery.

Competition

Market Penetration

The penetration has been challenging for Royal Bengal Greentech in terms of finding the right market for bio grease. The startup has already reached the breakeven stage in only 6months of its operation. Companies like Berger Paints and Tata Steels have shown their interest in collaborating with RBG.

Revenue Model

Currently, there are two models of revenue for the startup–Sales and Licensing. The sales part currently is only limited to B2B and licensing to B2B.

Expansion Plans

The sales revenue model is expected to extend to B2C and B2G for RBG. The plan is to cover all the states in India and then go global.

Expert in Strategy deployment, Customer relationship, Technology innovation, R&D, Process and Product Development, Process Flow sheeting and Simulation, Design, Technical Sales and Commercial Sales, Six Sigma, and TRIZ, she has successfully accomplished sales worth >US$ 300 MM over 10 years in the Oil and Gas Sector in India, Middle East, China, Asia Pacific, and Europe with leading MNCs of Honeywell and WR Grace.

She has already converted RBG into a revenue-generating start-up, with key innovations in Greentech, cleantech, and climate tech. She is a Gold Medallist in Chemical Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, a Cost & Management Accountant from ICWAI, Kolkata, MBA (Marketing) from IGNOU. She holds three patents in process development and optimization in the fuels sectors with Honeywell and two patents with Royal Bengal Greentech.
